KOOLTRONIC, INC. PURSUES "GREEN PRACTICES" TO HELP PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT

KOOLTRONIC, INC., of Pennington, NJ, the leading manufacturer of air conditioners, heat exchangers, fans and blowers for electronic enclosures, is making its New Jersey operation an example of environmentally-friendly industrial practices. These efforts include converting our Corporate Headquarters and manufacturing plant to solar power, establishing a wildlife habitat, using ozone-friendly refrigerants and recycling to help protect the environment.

Solar Power

Kooltronic has always enjoyed a proud tradition of engineering and producing the highest quality products available while maintaining environmentally-friendly industrial practices. As an example of this commitment, Kooltronic is currently powered by over 2,600 solar energy panels installed on the roof of their facility during the summer of 2006. At the time of construction this solar power system was among the largest commercial installations in New Jersey. Solar power needs no fuel and produces no waste or pollution. This independence from non-renewable energy sources is an example of Kooltronic's dedication to the environment, and evidence that they are looking with an eye to the future.

Environmentally-Friendly Refrigerants

Kooltronic was among the first manufacturers in the industry to use ozone-friendly R-134A refrigerant in its air conditioners. Since 1992, Kooltronic has used R-134A in all its air conditioners for which R-134A compatible compressors are commercially available.

“The depletion of ozone should not be treated as a problem for the distant future,” said Mr. Freedman. “This is truly a global problem that is greatly impacting the environment and our health.”

Prudent foresight on the part of government and industry has lead to laws and refrigerants that will help reverse the damage to the ozone layer.

“By international treaty, the manufacturing of R-22-based air conditioning equipment will cease by 2015,” Mr. Freedman said. “Therefore it makes sense from both an environmental and financial standpoint to invest in the new environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient R-134A systems before R-22-based equipment becomes more costly to service and maintain.”

Wildlife Habitat

“The state of New Jersey has experienced rapid over-development that threatens natural species,” said Barry Freedman, president of Kooltronic. “Our 100-acre site has ample space to support native songbirds and waterfowl, so we are taking measures to establish a safe and welcoming habitat for them.”

Kooltronic has installed wood duck nesting boxes along a pond and bluebird boxes along fields on its site. Volunteers from Kooltronic and local Boy Scouts constructed and mounted the boxes.

“Both the wood duck and the bluebird have been hard hit by loss of habitat and environmental contaminants,” said Freedman. “Since our facility can provide a safe habitat for them, we want to do what we can to preserve these native species in their natural environment.”

In June of 2006 Kooltronic, Inc. was presented with the Conservation and Open Space Award from the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsman's Clubs in recognition of its efforts to maintain open space and manage wildlife through scientific and biological practices. Kooltronic is recognized as a company at the forefront of corporate environmental responsibility and good neighbor relations.

Recycling Across the Spectrum

Kooltronic recycles office paper, soda bottles and cans, as well as scrap metal left over from the manufacturing process. Reducing waste through these efforts helps the environment by conserving resources and energy. Kooltronic has made recycling a routine activity in both manufacturing and administrative activities. As a "green" step, Kooltronic utilizes a closed, recycling powder-painting system that captures and reuses particulates from the powder-painting process, preventing their release into the environment. Powder coating processes are universally accepted and specified as the Best Available Control Technology (BACT) to reduce air pollution primarily because no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions are released into the atmosphere. Since no solvents are used as any part of the powder paint process, concerns about ground water, air quality or hazardous waste are eliminated.

With over 50 years of service to its customers, Kooltronic is the leading manufacturer of air conditioners, heat exchangers, fans and blowers designed specifically to cool the interior of enclosures containing heat sensitive electrical/electronic components. The company has a complete manufacturing facility and sales office at its headquarters in Pennington, NJ and a regional sales office in Ventura, CA.

RoHS Compliant Kooltronic products are in compliance with European Economic Union (EEU) Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC, except for the exemptions listed under the RoHS Directive.
