Knowledge

Check the following statements you feel are present in your home or office.

  • Do you or your family / fellow workers feel tired and lethargic?
  • Do your eyes ever feel dry or have a burning sensation?
  • Are windows in your home of office building sealed shut?
  • Is there noticeable dust accumulation on the furniture?
  • Are there unpleasant odors in your home or office?
  • Is smoking allowed in your office, or do you smoke at home?
  • Does your home or office feel hot and stuffy a good deal of the time?
  • Has there been a noticeable increase in respiratory illness at work or in your family??
  • Do the walls require excessive cleaning or refinishing because of a "dingy" appearance?
  • Are copy machines and other office equipment in your home or office space?
  • Does the office building contain manufacturing operations?
  • If yes, are there noticeable odors associated with that manufacturing?
  • Has your home or office building been insulated and weather-proofed for energy efficiency?
  • Are dirt stains noticeable around air conditioning, air supply and return air ducts?
  • Is there NO periodic inspection and maintenance on your heating and ventilation system?
  • If designated smoking areas are established, are they ventilated by the same system that serves the rest of the house or office?
  • When your home or office is cleaned, are there strong (odorous) chemicals used on the carpet, furniture, etc.?
  • Do you, your family, or fellow workers experience headaches, nausea or a burning sensation in the nose or throat more frequently or work or a home?


If you checked two or more of the above conditions, your home or office may have Indoor Air Quality problems.

According to the World Health Organization and other health monitoring organizations, 1 in 3 new or newly remodeled buildings may have an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) problem.
