Guardian Series Filter Fans are configured to supply or exhaust air to/from an enclosure to remove heat buildup. In either the supply or exhaust scenario, it is recommended that a compatible Filter-Hood Assembly be included as part of the setup, as this will protect against environmental contaminants. The combination of Guardian Filter Fan and Filter-Hood Assembly is essential for maintaining the optimal operation and longevity of the sensitive electronic components housed inside an enclosure, especially in industrial or outdoor environments. Cooling air should enter the enclosure from as low as possible and leave the enclosure from above the highest hot component. Thus, the forced air flows upward through the heat-producing components and adds to the natural buoyancy of the heated air. Typical mounting orientations and airflow scenarios are illustrated below.
The supply airflow scenario utilizes one Guardian Series Filter Fan with intake airflow direction and one Filter-Hood Assembly. The Filter Fan (lower-right) pressurizes the cabinet with outside air. This cooler ambient air travels into the enclosure, through heat-producing components, and exits through the Filter-Hood Assembly (top-left).
✅ Advantage: Supplying the air or pressurizing the enclosure can exclude the ingress of dust, providing the inlet is filtered.
The exhaust airflow methodology utilizes one Guardian Series Filter Fan with reverse airflow direction and one Filter-Hood Assembly. The Filter Fan with reverse airflow direction (top left) actively exhausts the warm air from the cabinet. The ambient air supply enters the cabinet through a Filter-Hood Assembly (lower right), which helps remove airborne contaminants.
✅ Advantage: Exhausting the air drawn in through a Filter-Hood Assembly provides for even air circulation amongst heat-producing components.
The supply and exhaust methodology utilizes two Guardian Series Filter Fans working in tandem. A Guardian Filter Fan with intake airflow direction supplies (pressurizes) the enclosure (lower right), while a Guardian Filter Fan with reverse airflow direction actively exhausts the air with heat load (top-left).
✅ Advantage: The combination of Guardian Series Filter Fans actively supplying and exhausting air can be more effective with enclosure applications that have higher static pressure.
